Much of the focus on tackling ASB focused on communal blocks of residential areas. But the residents of the Eric and Treby Estate have also been subjected to the boy racers, who have been speeding on the quiet roads. With near misses of pedestrians and oncoming cars, it is only a matter of time before there is a serious accident. Below are proposals put forward to me by residents to improve the situation.

Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) on the Eric and Treby Estate : Introducing the Boy Racers of the “Mile End Mile”

The Eric and Treby Estate is fortunate as it has access to good transport links and public facilities (Mile End and Cemetery Park), and quiet roads. However unfortunately this has also attracted ASB, mainly by people from outside the estate, including Boy Racers. The estates quiet roads attract Boy Racers , due to the layout of the orad, allowing them to time themselves doing a lap, known as the ‘Mile End Mile’.

Resident Lead Walkabout and Solutions Proposed

So one early weekday evening, I and a member of the Mile End Community Forum (MCF) did a walk around to look at residents concerns. The MCF has already garnered people’s concerns and relayed them to me with proposed solutions. Below is a summary along with map and pictures of the solutions proposed:

Map showing with key of the solutions proposed by residents to prevent racing in and around the Eric and Treby Estates in Mile End

Point A – Extension of Double Yellow Parking Lines from the junction, thus making this junction safer and more visible for oncoming traffic

Point B – Faulty Lights Mossford Street, making a dip in the pavement unlcear and darkening a large part of the street

Point C – Junction Marking, and give way lines unclear

Point D – Space between road humps too wide, allowing cars to speed through the gap, enar the entrance of bonner primary schools

Point E – Metal Barriers have become a focal point for spectators to sit on and time the cars

Point F – Marking for the bend in the road not clear, also no sign asking drivers to slow down due to the bend in the road

Point G –  Metal Barriers have become a focal point for spectators to sit on and time the cars

Point H – Marking in the junction not clear

Point I – Road lacks effective speed calming measures, allowing racers to pick up speed along a long straight road

Point J – Marking on the road junction not clear, double yellow parking lines need to extended, preventing cars from parking at the junction and therefore obscuring views

Point K – Double yellow lines need to extended so as to prevent cars parking near the mouth of the junction and obstructing views. Also prevent cars from blocking pedestrian crossing for those on wheelchair or partially sighted.

Point L – Treby Street has become a focal area for ASB as a pitstop place as well as for other activities.

I would like your views as to whether I have captured all the issues and proposed solutions correctly, and let me know whether there is anything esel you want to add, before I take it up with the Council. You can do the following:
