Dear Transport for London,

I am writing  to you to oppose the new cycle route from Hackney to the Isle of Dogs. On the following two grounds:

1 – There is no mention in the proposed redesign of the roads for the cycle route of restoring the the right turn at the Burdett Road and Mile End Road junction. The residents living in and around Mile End have been negatively impacted by the lack of right turn at the junction. This has lead to longer journey times, added congestion and more pollution in local roads, local roads which have primary schools.

The longer journey times and added congestion is making the roads in and around the junction unsafe, leading drivers to make dangerous u turns and other maneuvers.

2- Once again local residents, many living in social housing estates  in the area are made to suffer for the convenience of affluent City workers. For example the proposed cycling routes are designed for the convenience of commuters to Canary Wharf but the cycle lanes (both from the North and from the South) end at Canary Wharf and don’t continue within the Canary Wharf estate. The overspill at the end of each route will lead to added pressures to local infrastructure.

Once again, poor residents are asked to bear the burden of convenience for the Canary Wharf estate, yet there is no reciprocation from the rich businesses in Canary Wharf. It appears the TFL plans are not for all Londoners, just the affluent ones, in this case the workers at the Canary Wharf estate.

For the above reasons I and many of the residents in Mile End Ward, who mainly live on social housing estates in the area, cannot support these plans as they are, and will be objecting. In addition, I ask for revised plans to be put forward in addressing the above concerns.

With Regards,

Cllr Puru Miah
