After much hard work by campaigners and elected members, TFL has agreed to rename a bus stop after the Altab Ali, to mark the 40th anniversary of his racist murder and the anti racist movement the came about, following his death.

On Wednesday 11th of July in main Council Chamber I raised a question related to the memory of the murder of Altab Ali. I asked my friend, ward colleague and lead member for Environment, Cllr David  Edgar, whether he would support the calls to change the name of the bus stop on Whitechapel Road, from Adler Street to Altab Ali Park. He answered in the affirmative. The proposal was put forward to mark the 40th anniversary of the racist murder of Altab Ali.

Three months on after a successful campaign, with the joint efforts of, Lead Member for Environment David Edgar, Mayor John Biggs and Assembly Member, Unmesh Desai, TFL have agreed to rename Bus Stop, Altab Ali Park.

Official launch event will be on Wednesday 31st October 2018, 12 pm at Altab Ali Park.

Meeting between members of the Altab Aii Trust and AM Unmesh Desai, discussing launch event.
