I have been invited to a consultation meeting by TFL and Tower Hamlets Council, with regards to the proposed North South Cycle Route by TFL linking Hackney with Canary Wharf. Please see pictures below:

I cannot attend the meeting due to work commitments, but notified them of my objections:

“I will not be able to come to the meeting. However I would like to state that I will not be able to support the proposed new cycle route, and that is the near unanimous decisions of residents living on the ward.

The proposed route does not take into account the myriad of problems created by the East West Cycle route on the Mile End and Burdett Road junction, including the no right turn, which has made the junction more dangerous, added to journey times and thus causing more pollution. My suggestion would be to take the cycle route through the park (green bridge), thus avoiding the junction all together.”

Next Steps:

  • Will seek further information on the time table with regards to the proposed cycle route
  • Will liaise with residents in terms of how to effectively articulate views felt with regards to the proposed cycle route
  • Working with residents and stakeholders, organise effective ‘actions’, to have an impact on the proposed consultation and on decision makers.
