On Friday 8th of June, I met up with Steve Stride the CEO of Poplar HARCA to put forward concerns raised by residents during the election campaign.

Poplar HARCA is a local Registered Social Landlord (RSL), and one of the largest Landlords in Mile End Ward (they manage the housing stock on the Leopold and Burdett and West Lansbury Estate). Mile End Ward is important to Poplar HARCA, as it contains approximately 20% of their housing stock. Therefore I and Steve Stride, CEO of Poplar HARCA sat down and discussed issues raised by residents during the election campaign: Leopold Estate:

  • Tackling ASB and improved and proactive youth outreach work
  • Proposed redevelopment of the old doctor surgery

Burdett Estate:

  • ASB around the playing area next to Bredel House, St. Paul’s Way and Burgess Street
  • Community Safety measures in Booker Close, Tunley Green and Callingham Close.
  • Proposed Community Centre in the Burdett Estate
  • Future investment on the Burdett Estate
  • Concerns with regards to the ‘Sheds Policy’

West Lansbury Estate:

  • Housing Stock survey
  • Concerns regarding ASB
  • Concerns regarding Chrisp Street Market regeneration
  • Arranging a meeting between residents of Baring House, Poplar HARCA and the basement tenants.

The meeting was productive and and hopefully there will be positive future announcements, watch this space…
